Hull Young People’s Parliament

Today these lovely Year 10’s and Year 7’s went to Hull Young People’s Parliament. Emily Koyuncu is the Hull Young Major and chaired the first meeting in her robes. She did a fantastic speech with lots of confidence. All the girls contributed to the debate and discussion around knife crime in Hull, Curriculum for life, voting at 16 and homelessness. Olivia Smith, Sumaiya Rahman, Winnie Chinyazda, Hadiyah Bhamji and Chloe Dolman all spoke to the entire chambers with their thoughts and opinions. They represented Newland School for Girls with great professionalism and all showed fantastic debating skills. After the debates were finished all candidates made their vote which decided what issue the young people want to be addressed in Hull– homelessness won the vote.

They all left very happy and some of the girls have decided that they want to be part of the Young People’s Parliament more proactively in the future. It was a great trip and we are looking forward to next year!
