2017 Newland School for Girls achieves their highest GCSE results in their History

Well Done Class of 2017!

Newland School for Girls has yet again seen an improvement in results for the 4th year in succession.  We were recognised as one of the most improved schools in the region in 2015 and again in 2017.

Well done to all our girls, their supportive parents and the teachers who worked hard, supported and encouraged every girl.  NSG is very proud of all of you!

You will have heard that the way results are published now is very different.

  1. Progress 8 score
  2. Attainment 8 score
  3. Percentage of pupils who got a standard and a good pass in English and maths

Progress 8 and Attainment 8 measures how well every pupil does over 8 subjects.  These subjects are separated into buckets.  Students must study subjects from the list below otherwise their grade will not count toward the performance tables.  At Newland School for Girls we have 13 students who count in the Attainment 8 but not the Progress 8 because they do not have key stage 2 results.

Bucket 1: English Language or English Literature (the better double counts) and Mathematics (maths is double counted)

Bucket 2: (three subjects from) Sciences, History, Geography and Languages

Bucket 3: (three subjects from) Other options

Performance Measure 2016/17 2015/16 2014/15 2013/14
Progress 8 Score -0.031 -0.27 -0.36 -0.78
Attainment 8 Score 45.00 44.5 43.27 40.76
Standard Pass English and Maths (9-4) 53% 40% 51% 46%
Strong Pass English and Maths (9-5) 25%
Entered into Ebacc 11% 33% 27% 22%
Achieving Ebacc 5% 13% 15% 9%

As you can see we have 4 years of improvement in overall attainment and also in how well we do with the students from their prior attainment from KS2 SATs – this is the progress 8.  We will continue this improvement to ensure that every girl achieves her potential, working with our parents and staff to remove the barriers and provide the best opportunities for all students.
