Throughout Y10, we aim to inspire our girls to focus on preparation for their future. We have a variety of remote, virtual and pre-recorded events planned throughout the year to help them decide on their choices for Further Education and future career pathways as well as building the skills they will need for life. Although we are careful to follow the covid guidance around sport, we still strongly believe that our students need access to their PE lessons. Therefore, in year 10 we have adapted our PE programme to focus on leadership qualities through sport, this includes communications games. Students create warm up and cool down exercises as well as focusing on power, reaction and agility activities. Students also take part in the interhouse cross country competition.
In conjunction with Hull University, we are currently exploring the opportunities for virtual and ‘live’ online Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths opportunities throughout the year, including the possibility of medical careers fair and university-style lectures. This will obviously be dependent on guidance and restrictions put in place by the government and by the University themselves. We also are in partnership with Arkwright Scholarships; this means our girls are able to apply for scholarships if they have an interest in engineering and provides fantastic gateways into STEM careers and apprenticeship opportunities.
The students will also undergo remote tours and live online meetings with staff from the local colleges to help inform their choices, in which they will have the chance to see a taster of what life might be like post 16. They are also given extensive support through Careers interviews and work experience before they make final choices in year 11. We believe that Y10 gives everyone a chance to prepare for their future career paths and to understand that they can succeed in whatever they want to be.
