Sports studies (National Certificate)

 What is it about?

All students will follow the OCR Cambridge National Certificate in Sport Studies. This qualification aims to improve the students physical skills within individual and team sports, in addition developing the students’ theoretical knowledge.

4 units will be covered, 1 exam based, 1 practical based, 1 sports leadership and one other optional unit.

Developing sports skills:  Candidates are examined in 2 different practical sporting activities across a wide variety of physical activities.                            (One in a team activity and one in an individual activity).

Examination: There is one written examination based unit on the theory content of the course.

Exam areas that will be covered:

Learning Outcome 1: Understand the issues which affect participation in sport

Learning Outcome 2: Know about the role of sport in promoting values

Learning Outcome 3: Understand the importance of hosting major sporting events

Learning Outcome 4: Know about the role of national governing bodies in sport

 

This question paper:

  • comprises short answer questions, extended response questions and some use of multiple choice questions
  • assesses the quality of written communication.

Sports Leadership:

Know the qualities of sports leaders, plan, deliver and evaluate leadership sessions.

Other units:

1 other unit will be covered from the following:

  • Sport and the media
  • Working in the sports industry
  • Developing knowledge and skills in outdoor activities

What is the course worth?

All results are awarded on the following scale:

  • Distinction* at Level 2 (*2)
  • Distinction at Level 2 (D2)
  • Merit at Level 2 (M2)
  • Pass at Level 2 (P2)
  • Distinction at Level 1 (D1)
  • Merit at Level 1 (M1)
  • Pass at Level 1 (P1).
